Another news story. I remember reading about this family when their last child was born nine months ago (you do the math). Raise your hand if you're surprised the father's name is Jim Bob.
I'll take "How much longer until that asshat GWB leaves office?" for $600, Alex.
If you can't respect and honour the young folks who make up the majority of your fighting military and put their lives on the line for you, then who are you as a human being? I don't care what your views of war are, nor do mine figure into this, but other than the usual few bad apples, and of course their civilian leaders, you just don't shit on your protectors, they who are willing to put their lives on the line for yours. I know that stories of their medical facilities have been in the news, too - I'm not ignoring that or other discouraging military stories, I'm just pointing out this particular story as just one example of the US military's betrayal of those brave young folks who thought they were doing the right thing.
I was doing some noontime CNN.com reading and came across this story. Maybe there's more to it than I'm seeing, since, as I said, I am not American, and therefore not up on all the news to do with this subject, but the last lines of this story (GWB's negative response to the subject) made me sick, for way too many reasons to list.
Coming to a pandemic near you.
I've noticed that CNN.com has started offering t-shirts decorated with some of their headlines. You'll see the headline and then an icon of a t-shirt next to it. Click on the t-shirt and you'll be shown what your shirt will look like. I've yet to see one that would actually make sense as a t-shirt. So far, I've only noticed the icon next to video clips, but maybe I'm missing others. Here are two that are offered today:
Crying 4-year-old found along highway
Teen too young for "come hither" pose?
Why are those special enough to get their own t-shirt? What's wrong with these headlines:
Incest dad vacationed while kids locked up
Five killed in Sydney Harbour boat collision
Well, those ones aren't video clips, but other than that, they'd be just as tasteful, don't you think?
Looks like it might be back to gunracks and confederate flags - your nuts are no longer welcome in Florida.
Men of Congo have come up with the ultimate men's excuse - I foresee an increase in the number of witch doctors reported in the Western world.
How the hell is it possible that this guy keeps getting light sentences and released? Should they not be looking into dangerous offender status for him so that he is kept behind bars indefinitely? It's obvious that rehab is never going to help him.
Also, here is an update of sorts on the autistic girl I posted about not too long ago. There has been worldwide attention since her story broke, and CTV aired a more in-depth piece on her. I'd heard of this therapy before. I wish all autistic children had parents who could afford the pricy treatment. From what I understand, the government is reducing (or even removing?) coverage for autistic children.
In my week of newslessness, I knew at least one good story would break. Not that I am anywhere near caught up on stuff that went on while I was in my oblivious paradise, but I think this storyline will remain my favourite. I won't go into the whole who what when where why of it all, but this man was intimately involved with our biggest sister company, and our parent-company stock has yet to recover. Gotta love it when a condescending, hypocritical prick can't keep his own in his trousers.
Here's a throwback for you - my old "make fun of news headlines" bit.
msnbc.com:
Who's Getting Abortions? Not Who You'd Think
(okay, my guess is gonna beeeee......nuns impregnated by their
half-brothers' best friends who they thought were dead but really had
just gone into witness protection and had their faces reconstructed)
A Ton of Rat Snakes Found on Vietnam Air Flight (so many politicians on the same plane?)
cnn.com:
Know When, How, to Take Dad's Keys (my advice is wait until after eight when he's passed out from an afternoon of hard drinking, using a fish hook attached to a really long line)
New Palm Species Discovered (these ones won't get hairy)
ctv.ca:
Slain Bystander Was Well-Liked, Hard-Working
(c'mon, how many people who die are spoken of in a negative way?
They're all always the best-liked, hardest-working, most honest person
in the whole wide world. I mean, even Saddam had nice things said about
him when his lights went out)
abcnews.com:
Scientists Reject Bush Moon Plan (I'm just gonna leave this one wiiiiiiiiiide open for you guys - there are just so many possibilities)
thanks to ctv.ca for this wonderful article
