Our beloved IT guy's last day was today so tonight a bunch of peeps from the office went to a local pool place so we could eat and drink ourselves silly while playing a few games of pool. The fact that I don't drink often doesn't mean that any time someone sees me with a drink they have to make all sorts of faces and act like I'm supposed to be a liquor-nun or something. Anyway, it was a grand old time. A lot of folks left after maybe an hour at most, which begs the question of why they bothered coming in the first place. I mean, the card and present hadn't even been given yet, and the guest of honour, who traveled with me, maternity leave girl, and sortaboss, hadn't even been there half an hour. By the end, it was me, maternity leave girl, IT guy, boss, sortaboss, IT guy's friend, and two or three others. We played pool, drank, ate, and had a merry old time. Sortaboss drove me home about half an hour ago. We left the rest of them there but I don't think they were hanging around much longer. I know that the company would probably be paying for at least most of the food, and two drink tickets each, but boss kept telling the chick to bring more food and keep tabbing the drinks. They made me do two shooters, which I hate, and they were soooooooo sweet, I'm fully expecting a headache to hit by morning. Office boss was gone by that time, but hopefully he and boss sorted something out beforehand. Can't wait to hear the end of the story on Monday.
Yay and congrats to all of us who made it through Nablopomo 2007 successfully!
And now, on to the actual post:
Because it's holiday time again, there's been talk around the 'hood about the various ways of giving gifts via charities such as Oxfam Unwrapped and Heifer Unlimited. My sister has already requested that any money for gifts for her and her other half either be kept and used for ourselves or used toward these kind of charities. I was doing a bit of searching on Google to look for as many options as I could in order to make a decision and happened upon this site. From the sites I've looked at so far, I was leaning toward choices more along the lines of non-animal anyway, but I'd really like to know the thoughts of anyone who knows more about all of this than I do. Are there valid points on both sides of the argument? Do you tend to give the animal or non-animal gifts? Another link I came across is here, and it lists a number of charity-related gifting ideas. I will look into its links further this weekend, just to give myself more to choose from, and get confused by...
Show us a corkscrew.
Submitted by Scott.
just thought this was funny - and, might I add, what an odd hunt this is - although without it, I would never have discovered the world of collecting corkscrews (discovered during my google image searching)
Well, it was fine and dandy to have yesterday off, but as usual, coming back to work makes it all feel like it never happened. On the bright side, it's Tuesday already!
I was checking on loltheist to see if my submissions were getting good ratings or not. It's kind of odd but the ones I find the funniest are getting the lower ratings. Granted, I wouldn't have submitted any that I didn't find amusing anyway, but still.... And some of the other postings over there get pretty high ratings and I don't find them particularly funny at all. Maybe it's my lack of religious background or lack of knowing if some are "in-joke" captions. I'm sure I'll do some more at some point. I'll post them here first to get a bit of feedback.
I had the freakiest phone call here at the office this morning. Our phones have call display so when I saw my father's name and phone number pop up, I got a little jump in my chest. Not only does he rarely call me at home, but he has never called me at work before. I mean, we're talking about neither he nor his wife calling until well after my dad had a heart attack (both times). Oh, the stories I could tell. Anyway, turns out all he wants is to ask a question about a couple of spices I asked him to send me (can't find them here and he's bought them for me before). Apparently his emailing skills failed him all of a sudden. I'm surprised he even had my business card. I know I would have given him one, but to actually keep it and call me here? It's just weird. I guess shopping was the thing for him to do today.
Oh, I had lunch with Sortaboss today. I needed to get more info from him on his take about my job situation. I'll write more on that later.
I'm still getting a kick out of the hand-dryer video in my last post. Man, I amuse easily.
Hmmm, what other random things can I type in order to keep avoiding work? Ah, nothing, I guess. There's less than an hour left now and I really do have a couple of things to get done before I leave.
