Rule: Summarize your life in a six word memoir, with optional photo illustration. Then tag six others.
What the hell is going on?
Tag: you six - yes, you!
BA tagged me and I wasn't sure I could come up with anything interesting for this. Well, I still didn't come up with much of interest, but hey, it beat working for a few minutes. In no particular order, voilà my eight things:
1. As much as I like my job and the people I work with, if I didn’t have to, I wouldn’t work. So many people say they would always have to have a job of some kind are clearly insane. I could think of plenty of things to occupy my time and would be happy to be in that position.
2. For a university course, I once wrote an English essay that turned out to be from the complete opposite point of view of everyone else, including the professor. I don’t remember the specifics, but I related the topic or situation to one character when apparently it was intended to be related to another character. However, I still got a good mark because my argument/point of view was well-written and clearly interpreted to my view. The professor made a point of mentioning this without naming me, for which I was grateful. It had never occurred to me for one second to see it from everyone else’s point of view, even after I learned “the truth”. This sort of thing is quite common for me, but it was the first time it was ever really pointed out so dramatically. To this day, it still makes me wonder about why I think/see/interpret things the way I do.
3. I don’t think I’ll ever have emotional clarity regarding my father.
4. Sometimes I regret moving halfway across the country, especially now that it is pretty much impossible to move back, at least not for many years.
5. I don’t anticipate growing old with a significant other. Some days this is a happy thing, some days it is a sad thing.
6. From the time I quit university until I moved to where I am now, I was a florist (about nine years). At one point, I ran the main shop of about nine shops in the area. It’s about the only visually-creative thing that I am capable of doing.
7. I am not very coordinated when it comes to requiring my hands to do two different things at the same time, such as playing a guitar or a piano. They invariably end up making the same motions or else one stops altogether.
8. My mother’s sister (they live together here in the same city as me) drives me nuts when I spend more than an hour or so with them because she uses cutesy nicknames for me (well, for my mother, too, but she’s used to it, I guess) and cutesy words and sayings, etc. It’s been this way my whole life but it still gets under my skin and I really have to control my words and tone of voice around her. Not to mention the spouting off for no reason/bad reasons and comments more appropriate thirty years ago. As horrible as it is to think or say, a big fear of mine is that my mother passes before my aunt and I would end up being responsible for her.
Your cat is Al Gore! Always the winner of the pawpular vote, Edgar is Al Gore! Green through and through, Edgar is super-careful about how he marks his territory and goes out of his way to cover his tracks. Though Edgar is a lover and not a fighter, he won't stray from your side when trouble flashes its ugly fangs. Not bothered by superfluous detail, Edgar can be counted on to report back to you with the facts at hand, no matter how nasty they may be. Not one to rely on his top-notch genes and breeding, scratching and clawing his way to the top is Edgar's modus pawperandi.
when so many of the sites we visit will be here?
Some random vox chick, goes by the name IG, tagged me for this literary meme. Well, strangers scare me, but she seems nice enough so I figured I'd do it anyway. :-P
Here are my instructions:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.
5. Tag 5 different people.
Here goes:
"Or a judge may 'come in and promise that he will be merciful, with the mental reservation that he means that he will be merciful to himself or to the State; for whatever is done for the safety of the State is merciful.' As in twentieth-century totalitarianism, things become their opposite according to the dictates of the regime. It reminds us of the nightmare world of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty four, with its dominant slogans, 'WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH'; the authors of Malleus might add 'CRUELTY IS MERCY'."
Wow,
this IG person had better hope that I haven't spoiled the book now
since I'm not even to page 123 yet. Those three sentences might contain
the whole secret to the book! The book, by the way, is A Brief History of Misogyny: The World's Oldest Prejudice by Jack Holland. Tag yourself and feel free to think it was me who whacked you on the shoulder and cried "You're it!"

edit: woohoo! all six new pics have been accepted - the arbed name will be owning that site next week! actually, they liked my stuff so much that they joked about making an account for me - lol
So the loltheist peeps chose all of my submissions, but there are a couple they specifically chose to be posted on (American) Thanksgiving. They asked for more, especially more for that day since mine were the only two scheduled so far. Anyway, I did some more pictures, with a few TG-related (it was harder to do it specifically - I certainly didn't do it on purpose the first time). Here they are - let me know what you think.
