This may be somewhat of a repeat post, but I was reminded of it all by a little news blurb I just read. It would seem that a blooper moment from a past Canadian Idol audition is making its way to the Season Three premiere of TV's Most Outrageous Moments (I have never heard of this show before, but then again, I only get one channel). In case you have never seen the clip before, here it is:
And shortly after, the wireless carrier, Telus Mobility, who is (or was at the time) a sponsor of Canadian Idol, produced this commercial:
And while you're YouTubing, check out some other Telus commercials - they are fantastic and always (I think) feature animals of one kind or another!
if I hear the commercial for a local furrier's sale one more time, I might scream - you can only hear "sheared beaver" so many times in an evening
please tell me I did not just see a commercial for cottonelle bathroom tissue, with a little puppy going around watching people's butts, with the tag line "be kind to your behind"
For those of you who get CTV and missed it last time, the K-TEL show that I wrote about before is on again tonight.
Hmm, I was all set to write some other stuff, too, but as soon as the compose (haha, I made a typo and wrote "compost" - how telling) page came up, I lost all of my ideas. Maybe later, then, if you're all oh so lucky!
when it's a mandle candle
it's a commercial for some colour-changing candle, but it just sounds dirty to me
so go ahead, ask santa for the mandle candle - just be wary if he says he has one in his pants and asks if you want to unwrap it or blow out its flame
Well, the K-Tel history show was entertaining and informative. There was stuff that I didn't recognize or remember so I guess it's a good thing I watched, eh? I'm ready for K-Tel Jeopardy now!
Anyway, it was fun to be reminded of items like the Patty-Stacker, the Record Selector (later also made for 8-tracks and cassettes), and the Miracle Brush. I saw clips of stores from that era and was reminded of the old cash registers, among other things.
One story they recounted was about a lawsuit brought against them by a guy who bought their golf helper - it was a contraption that had a golf ball attached by a long string. The doohickey sat on the ground while you did your swing thing. As the ball flew, the string would pull an indicator on the doohickey that measured how far your ball went (that's what it all looked like anyway - I could be mistaken). Anyway, this guy was using it and one of the balls he hit came loose from the string. The ball hit his wife. The lawsuit was claiming damages for sexual services the wife could not perform due to injury from the ball. K-Tel admitted full responsibility and offered to reimburse the man for any fees incurred for using alternate services until his wife was recovered. They never heard from the man again.
I went to YouTube to search for K-Tel commercials,
but commercials for their products, not their music. I came across only
one, for The Knitter. I wish it were the commercial for this product
that they showed in the program - it showed you all the things you
could knit, including pants(?) and other various lovely clothing items.
And I absolutely have
to include this. While searching YouTube, I came across a K-Tel spoof
ad done for a soundtrack for the show "Criminal Minds". And who is
singing the songs and doing the commercial? None other than Mandy
Patinkin himself, the star of the show. I laughed so hopefully you will
too, even though I know there are a few <coughcrankycough> out
there who don't like Mr. Patinkin.
good commercials - I believe there are more than two in the series, but for now, only these two are on youtube:
well now (as that fucking DQ commercial comes on television again) I'm thinking about other commercials that bug the shit out of me - one is from the radio station that I have on in the morning so you'll just have to take my word for it, but I'll leave you with another one from television, too, and another video.
radio - a local jewelry store that is known (or is supposed to be, I guess) for diamonds, especially engagement rings. So, the commercial is a conversation between a man and a woman. She calls him on his cell asking him where he is. He says he's, ummmm, working late at the office? Naturally, as soon as he says this, a goal is scored at the hockey game he's attending and the big horn thing goes off. Woman pipes up, all pissed off, that he'd better hope that his seat folds out into a couch! So the next thing you hear is the voiceover sing-songing "I think it's time for a diamond!". Pfffttt - wtf? Maybe it's just me, but I find the commercial rather insulting, and I don't insult easily at all.
television - feminine hygiene commercials drive me insane, and it's almost a joke in my family. Let's see: we bleed blue, we need disposable panties for those "little accidents", a panty liner in a thong is adequate protection, we need black panty liners to go in our dark-coloured underwear, oh I could go on. Show me some commercials for jock itch or premature ejaculation (which is probably blue in tv-land) and I might ease off the teeniest bit. In any event, I came across this when I was thinking of this post, and it made me laugh so hard that I had to post it. I have no idea where it's from, and maybe you've seen it, but too bad because I hadn't and I love it. Here you go:
